How mobile hotspot works
Mobile hotspot lets you share your phone's connection with a laptop, tablet, or another device.
Hotspot is included on every plan. There is no separate hotspot add-on and no extra fee.
Hotspot uses your plan data. It draws from the same monthly high-speed data as your phone, rather than having its own separate allowance.
So if you are on Freedom with 5 GB, that 5 GB covers everything together: browsing on your phone and anything you tether to your hotspot.
Turning hotspot on
iPhone: Settings, then Personal Hotspot, then turn on Allow Others to Join.
Android: Settings, then Network and internet or Connections, then Hotspot and tethering.
Set a password so only your devices can connect.
Making your data go further
Data only counts when you are off Wi-Fi. A few easy habits stretch a smaller plan a long way:
Connect to Wi-Fi at home and at work.
Download music, podcasts, and shows over Wi-Fi before you head out.
Lower video streaming quality when you are on cellular.
Watch hotspot use closely. Laptops and tablets can use data much faster than a phone, especially with automatic updates and cloud backups running.
If you run out before your renewal date
You will not be cut off and you will not be charged a surprise overage. Your speed may be reduced for the rest of your billing cycle, and your full high-speed data returns on your renewal date.
If you are running short every month, you are probably on the wrong tier. You can move up anytime from the Manage My Account page, and the change takes effect at your next billing cycle.

Do I have to pay extra for hotspot? No. It is included on every plan.
Does hotspot have its own data allowance? No. It shares your plan's high-speed data.
Is any plan truly unlimited data? Talk and text are unlimited on every plan. High-speed data is a set amount per tier, with Purpose at 30 GB being our largest.
